There is a rumor that the old Cadiz Railroad was crooked to add length because railroads that are less than 10 miles aren’t officially recognized as such.

But at a Saturday night fundraising dinner held by the Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society Saturday night, former Cadiz Railroad President Stan White said that rumor was false, and that there were plenty of officially recognized railroads shorter than 10 miles. The Cadiz Railroad was 10.33 miles.

White joined historian William Turner, Thomas Harper and Steve Johnson at the fundraising dinner, which was held at the Cadiz Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society member Bob Brame said they got closer to the $25,000 match that they need to get a Transportation Enhancement Grant to stabilize the outside of the old Cadiz Masonic Lodge building – one of the oldest in Cadiz.

“I’m thankful because it’s all donations,” said Brame. “We’re getting there, we really are.”
