The Trigg County Board of Education was scheduled Thursday night to approve bid documents for the Trigg County Primary/Intermediate School addition.

But because of Kentucky Department of Education objections to the original schematics, the Board had to approve changes to those schematics, pushing back the completion of the project. Construction had been planned to begin in January 2014 and was to last into the fall of 2014.

The original plans had three preschool classrooms on the first floor and three on the second floor, but the KDE requires that all the preschool classrooms be on the first floor. The KDE also requires a preschool play area to be directly accessible from those classrooms, something the original plans did not provide for.

“This has been an ordeal … I guess that’s the best way that I can describe it,” said Trigg County School Superintendent Travis Hamby. “Everything has basically stopped. There’s been no real movement on the next step, which we really needed to be at tonight. Our goal was to have you approving basically the bid documents for this to go out to bid this evening.”
