At their Thursday night meeting, the Trigg County Board of Education joined school boards in Christian County, Marshall County, Hopkins County, McCracken County, Union County, Paducah, Murray, Mayfield and Dawson Springs in raising the dropout age.
Trigg County School Superintendent Travis Hamby said The Kentucky Department of Education is providing $10,000 to districts that adopt the new attendance policy by the 2013/2014 school year, and that those funds are to be used to help meet the needs of those students by the 2015/2016 school year.
“I believe it is the right thing to do,” said Hamby. “I believe this is the right move for us as a school district to … go ahead and implement this policy.”
