Cooperstown, do you accept this Rose?

The National Baseball Hall of Fame’s motto is “Preserving History, Honoring Excellence, and Connecting Generations.” While, for the most part, the Hall does a good job of this, it has left out for many years one of the game’s all-time greatest players. If the HOF really “honored excellence,” a man by the name of Pete Rose would be there, enshrined with many others of Americas past-times greatest players.

Throughout Rose’s career, he collected many accolades including but not limited to being the all-time leader in hits in Major League Baseball, collecting 4,256 over his illustrious baseball career. While I agree that players who dope or use steroids should never be allowed in the Hall as they have cheated the game, I disagree that Rose should be denied his rightful spot enshrined in Cooperstown for betting on baseball.

Rose has admitted what he did is wrong, but is it really that wrong? He never bet against his own team, which means he never “fixed” or “threw” a game. If he had done that, I would never bring up even the argument to let him in a place that I so greatly respect.

By the way, aren’t we supposed to forgive and forget? As humans, we all make mistakes and Rose has admitted it was a mistake. It’s time to move on, America. It was around 24 years ago when this scandal came about.

Here is what has to happen: Rose has to be inducted before he is deceased. While I don’t personally think it will happen, it is what SHOULD happen. The man has given his life to the game time and time again, and he has paid for his mistake for 30 years now. Let the Big Red Machine roll together into Cooperstown and enshrine the greatest hitter to ever walk the earth. You deserve him, Cooperstown.
