Sammie Bentley died of natural causes at 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville.
He was born on April 26, 1927, in Alabama to the late Henry Ray Crabtree and Era Dennis Blick.
Sammie was a member of Cadiz United Methodist Church. He retired as plant maintenance supervisor for Henderson County Schools. He was also the former owner and operator of Bentley Maytag in Cadiz. Sammie was also a former member of Cadiz Lions Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster mother, Iva Bentley; one sister, Margaret Crabtree; and four brothers, Bob Bentley, Efford Bentley, John Bentley and Thomas Crabtree.
Sammie is survived by his wife, Dr. Hilda Adams Bentley of Cerulean; sister Geneva Lyles of Fla.; three sons, Dr. Stephen Bentley of Louisville, Dennis Bentley (and wife Angela) of Hillsboro, Mo. and Jeffrey Bentley (and wife Dina) of Cerulean; one daughter, Katherine Kerr (and husband Jack) of Murray; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Dennis Bentley, Jeff Bentley, Stephen Bentley, Jr., Greg Matthews, Buddy Sivells and Lonnie Stewart. Music was provided by Cadiz United Methodist Church Choir and Pam Witty, pianist.
