Funeral services for Dr. Patricia (Pat) Small Beverstein, 84, of Valdosta, Ga., formerly of Cadiz, were held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, Ga. The Rev. Bob Willis officiated. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at East End Cemetery in Cadiz. The Rev. Kyle Noffsinger will officiate. Goodwin Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Dr. Patricia Beverstein died following a lengthy illness on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga.

Patricia was born on Aug. 8, 1928, in New Castle to the late Kenneth Bassett Small and Mary Jackson Small.

Patricia retired as Dean of the School of Nursing at Valdosta State University. Previous to her service at VSU, she founded a number of Schools of Nursing including the School of Nursing at University of Louisville. Upon retirement, she and her husband traveled throughout the United States in their motor home. Pat loved playing bridge and all her bridge friends. She was a long time member of Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta.

She is survived by her husband, Jack T. Beverstein of Valdosta, Ga.; one daughter, Irene Berens (and husband Robert); son John Beverstein (and wife Marianne); grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Carmen Berens, Lauren and Todd Hughes, Jessica Beverstein and Kimberly Beverstein; great-grandchildren, Claire Nicole Berens and Hudson Thomas Hughes.
