Funeral services for Ray Cardinal, 76, of Cadiz, will be held at 12 noon on Monday, July 29, 2013, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the service hour. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville. Goodwin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ray Cardinal died following a long illness at 10:54 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2013, at his home.

Ray was born on Jan. 22, 1937, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to the late Albert and Elsie LaPrise Cardinal.

Ray Cardinal was a United States Army veteran. He served in the Korean Conflict and in Vietnam. He served one tour in Korea and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from the military with 21 years of service and he also retired from Civil Service with 19 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and was of the Catholic faith.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by brother Albert Cardinal and sister Elaine Harris.

Ray is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean Cardinal of Cadiz; two brothers, Ron Cardinal and Don Cardinal, both of Ontario, Canada; one son, Gary Riddle (and wife Vivian); one daughter, Mary Staples (and husband David), all of Cadiz; three grandchildren, Michael Staples, Patrick Staples and Lucas Riddle; four great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

Music will be provided by Becky Waldrup, vocalist. Memorials may be made to Pennyroyal Veteran’s Center, 506 Boales Street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
