Last week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the general manager of the Hopkinsville Hoppers baseball team, Mrs. Finney Noffsinger. Noffsinger had a very interesting journey to get to the position she is in today. You see, Noffsinger was a flight attendant for 26 years and struggled from boredom after retirement.

So, this is where the story begins. Former Chicago residents, she and her husband thought it would be a great idea to try to get a job for the Chicago White Sox ... admittedly for the free tickets. She started with just a normal job, but then a year later, her yearning for free tickets to games at U.S Cellular Field on Chicago’s south side led her to a job as an administrative assistant in the White Sox front office. During her tenure in the White Sox front office, they won a World Series. Noffsinger struck gold with this win and got herself a World Series ring. A ring that she was kind enough to let me wear ... a lifelong dream of mine!

Noffsingers father-in- law was a Muhlenberg County resident, and when he was stricken with bad health, she and her husband were forced to move to western Kentucky, which was not what she wanted to do. However, after being here for about a year, she fell in love with the lakes and wanted to stay here for the rest of her life. This was also about the time she received a call and was asked to be the general manager for a new Collegiate Wooden Bat league team called the Hopkinsville Hoppers. After mulling on the decision, she accepted the position and the rest is history.

Noffsinger said barring physical issues, she’ll be a Hopper for a very long time. If you would like to see the Hoppers play, head to Hopkinsville High School’s baseball field on the 27th for a playoff game. The Hoppers are in first place heading into the playoffs, so this is a team you do not want to miss!
