To aid in the effort to alleviate at least some of that hunger, Farm Credit Mid-America has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Kentucky Association of Food Banks in support of the Farms to Food Banks program. Farm Credit Mid-America is an agriculture lending cooperative serving farmers, agribusinesses and rural residents throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.
The Farms to Food Banks program provides fresh, healthy produce to Kentuckians in need while reducing the amount of wasted food and providing additional markets for farmers. The association purchases at cost Kentucky-grown surplus that is edible but not saleable on the retail market. The produce is distributed free of charge to low-income Kentuckians through the food bank network.
