It’s a special project we undertake twice a year – once in July, once in November. It provides an opportunity for advertisers to reach the entire county.
But not just our advertisers – it’s our staff’s opportunity, as well. And starting this year, we’re doing something different with that opportunity.
First, let’s talk about November.
Over the last few years, we’ve provided the November free issue – “mass distribution” in our parlance – as a chance for advertisers to communicate to our readers at or around the beginning of Christmas shopping season.
However, our July issue didn’t have any other direct tie-in to anything special before this year. Beginning this year, you’ll find our Back to School special section in this issue.
The Trigg County Board of Education does a great job of providing us with all the information parents need heading into the new school year – supply lists, bus routes, calendar, etc. It is with the community’s needs in mind that we now offer this section as part of our July mass distribution edition.
In addition, this week’s issue has another special feature. Earlier this month, the Trigg County Youth Athletic Association held its Trophy Night to honor all the teams from this year’s youth baseball and softball leagues.
In this week’s Sports section, you’ll find a picture of each team that competed at the Recreation Complex this year.
Trophy Night was actually held a few weeks ago, but due to the volume of photos, we needed extra space to get them in all at once. The mass distribution issue provides a perfect opportunity for that.
As always, this month’s free issue also features a special offer for discounted subscriptions, which can be found on page C8. So if you’re not a current subscriber, or if you are and would like to extend your subscription at a lower rate, now’s the time.
And that’s not the only opportunity I hope our readers will seize in connection with this issue.
We hope we have made clear our dedication to providing you with the information you need. And while we think we have a good idea of many things you want to see in The Cadiz Record, we also rely on you to tell us.
The truth is, we can’t be everywhere at once, and this is a busy community, especially for a staff as small as ours. That’s where you come in.
If you know of an event you think should be featured in our newspaper, don’t assume we already know about it. Contact us by phone (270-522-6605), fax (522-3001) or email (news@cadizrecord .com or, for ads, ads@cadizrecord .com).
We look forward to continuing to inform the people of Cadiz and Trigg County.
