By a vote of 4 – 3, magistrates voted to give the 18 of the 55 full time county employees who haven’t opted in to health insurance plan a $1,000 flexible benefits card, or HRA (Health Reimbursement Account), after a motion by Magistrate Jon Goodwin – who chairs the county’s Budget Committee – and a second by Magistrate Larry Lawrence.
The 37 other county employees, who are enrolled in the insurance plan, will each receive a $1,500 HRA card. Goodwin and Lawrence, along with Magistrates Barry Littlejohn and Mike Wright voted yes. Magistrates Donnie Tyler, Jeff Broadbent and Rick Nelson voted no.
“What we’ve come up with was a recommendation that the county would give $1,000 benefit card to the 18 employees that declined the insurance,” said Goodwin. “In fairness to the 18 that declined the insurance itself, and in the spirit of keeping good employees … the Budget Committee was challenged with seeing what we could come up with.”
