Funeral services for Thelma Bridges Calhoun, 99, of Cadiz, were held on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz. Her grandchildren officiated. Burial followed in the Lawrence Cemetery in Trigg County. Goodwin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma died of natural causes at 5:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Shady Lawn Nursing Center in Cadiz.

She was born on April 12, 1914, in Trigg County to the late Sheffer and Nola Downs Bridges.

Thelma was a member of South Union Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member. She had served as Sunday school teacher, song leader, WMU leader and Vacation Bible School teacher. Thelma was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Rascoe Calhoun; two brothers, John Lacy Bridges and Howard Bridges; two sisters, Nina Taylor and Louise Herndon; and daughter, Bobbi Atchison.

Thelma is survived by one brother, Joel Robert Bridges of Gainesville, Fla.; one sister, Nancy Chisenhall of Clarksville, Tenn.; four daughters, Virginia Stubblefield (and husband Warren) of Cadiz, Stella Jones (and husband Jimmy) of Cadiz, Margaret Thomas (and husband Clarence) of Cadiz and Wanda DeName (and husband Tony) of Frankfort; grandchildren Phillip and Karen Stubblefield, Phyllis and Kelvin Nichols, Keith Stubblefield, Angie and Gary Lancaster, Annette and Mike Jones, Rick Thomas, Ronne and Bradley Cornelius, Bridger DeName, Victoria and Stephen Freeman and Morgan Barby; great-grandchildren Amanda Stubblefield, Megan and Ryan Johnson, Jessica and Preston Humphries, Shelby Lancaster, Caitlin and Jason Dunbar, Brennan Jones, Logan Thomas, Alex, Dylan and Olivia Cornelius, Julia, Ava, Caroline and Samuel Freeman; great-great-grandchildren Tatum and Caden Johnson, Makayla Calhoun Humphries and Bryce Humphries.

Serving as pallbearers were Phillip Stubblefield, Phyllis Nichols, Keith Stubblefield, Angie Lancaster, Annette Jones, Rick Thomas, Ronne Cornelius, Bridger DeName, Victoria Freeman and Morgan Barby. Music was provided by Jason Dunbar, vocalist and Steve Herndon, pianist.
