Steve Shekell died on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind.
He was born in Evansville, Ind., to Ben and Marian Shekell.
Steve graduated from University of Evansville and obtained his masters from Western Michigan. He started his teaching career in Michigan then moved to Carmi, Ill., where he was a teacher and guidance counselor.
He then moved to Evansville as a guidance counselor for Mater Dei. He became Chief Operating Officer of Performance Learning Systems, where he retired on Jan. 2 of this year. Steve loved fishing, boating, NASCAR and was a sport enthusiast. He spent many years drag racing.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Marian Shekell.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Boehringer Shekell; three brothers, John Shekell (and wife Ruthie), Rick Shekell (and wife Karen) and Greg Shekell (and wife Linda); daughter Traci R. Shekell Pearce (and husband Greg); sons Troy L. Shekell (and wife Beth), Bret A. Parks (and wife Tammy) and Brian R. Parks (and wife Julie); grandchildren Camille and Cassandra Pearce, Lauren, Mallory and Kelsey Shekell, Brady, Nick, Peighton, Hallie, Hendrix and Carson Parks; and many nieces and nephews.
