A request by Susan Cox Development of Jackson, Tenn., confirms that a Dollar General Store is proposed to be built on Main Street near Wharton Road, partly on the site of the building formerly occupied by The Way.

Last Tuesday evening, Susan Cox Development requested a dimensional variance from the City of Cadiz Board of Adjustments. Only the dimensional variance itself was discussed at the meeting, not the meat of the construction project itself, but the board gave preliminary approval.

Kevin Atwood of Bank of Cadiz, who was at the meeting, said the new Dollar General will be on two current lots, one of which holds the previous location of The Way Christian Youth Center. Properties owned separately by Bank of Cadiz (the former Radio Shack location) and Goodwin Investments (The Way) will be used for the new building, added Atwood.

Crystal Ghassemi, spokeswoman for Dollar General, said Dollar General plans to relocate from its current location across the street but is still in the due diligence phase, declining to confirm the new location.
