The Wildcats (1-1) had success stopping the Marshals’ rushing attack throughout the night, but the passing game was a different story until adjustments were made.
“We made a change defensively in our coverages that helped out tremendously,” Trigg head coach Coby Lewis said. “On their first scoring drive, they converted two fourth downs – one on a fake punt and the other when we had our punt return team on the field and they lined up with their offense. After we settled down and realized what they were doing to us with their punt team, that helped.”
Trigg took a 7-0 lead on a 45-yard touchdown run by Jayven Jones. Marshall answered with the aforementioned drive capped by a three-yard run by Cody Barnard, cutting the gap to 7-6.
