Borrowing from those and similar college football traditions, the winner of the annual rivalry game between Trigg County and Caldwell County high schools will claim the 139 Bowl trophy.
The brainchild of Trigg head coach Coby Lewis, the 139 Bowl – named for the state highway that connects Cadiz to Princeton – is sponsored by Hancock’s Neighborhood Market, which has locations in both cities. The trophy will reside each year at the hometown store location of the winning school.
“It’s a very expensive piece of art,” Lewis said. “[Former TCHS coach and teacher Mike] Wright and Trophyland put it together. It comes from the minds of two or three people. There wasn’t a formal drawn-up plan - it was an idea. It looks outstanding.”
