On second reading, they unanimously approved real estate and personal property tax rates of 0.267 and 0.3114 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, respectively. Last year, the rates were 0.266 and 0.333 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, respectively. The motor vehicle tax will stay the same at 26.20 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, after another unanimous vote.
This was Cadiz Mayor Lyn Bailey’s first appearance since he went to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., for heart surgery earlier this summer. He said that Cadiz City Councilor Frankie Phillips drove him via ambulance there in a little more than an hour.
“I’m sorry I missed the last meeting. I had this little problem I had to have patched,” he said. “I’m glad to be back. That was a 10-day vacation I wish I hadn’t had … But it all went well.”
