A renewed focus on youth involvement in basketball is yielding results for Trigg County’s school programs.

High school boys head coach Payton Croft and girls head coach Russell Malone – both in their first seasons on the job – have each made efforts to return to Little League play, which hasn’t been done consistently in Trigg for many years. So far, the results have both coaches excited for the future, as both held summer camps to get the ball rolling.

“I was worried we might not be able to have enough teams for a league,” Croft said, noting that approximately 110 boys have signed up for league play. “It’s been overwhelming, but in a good way. You’ve got to have the quantity before you can work on quality. You’ve got to get them out at a young age. The great ones are great because they started when they could walk. That’s what we’re trying to build here so it’s a feeder system to the middle school program and so the middle school can become a feeder system to the high school program.”
