VFW announces scholarship contests

VFW Post No. 7890 and its Ladies Auxiliary would like to announce their 2013 - 2014 Scholarship Contests:

The Voice of Democracy contest is for students in grades 9 - 12. Students will prepare an original essay on the topic of “Why I’m Optimistic About Our Nation’s Future”, and then record it on a CD. The recording of the essay should be between 3 and 5 minutes. The entries must be received at the VFW Post no later than Nov. 1, 2013, for local judging. If a student were to win the Grand Prize for the United States, he or she will receive $30,000.

The Patriot’s Pen contest is for students in grades 6-8. Students will prepare a typewritten essay that is 300-400 words long on the topic “What Patriotism Means to Me”.

The entries must be received at the VFW Post no later than Nov. 1, 2013, for local judging. If a student were to win the Grand Prize for the United States, he or she will receive $5,000.
