GOLF: Choate ties for fifth at boys state championship

Trigg County senior Nick Choate finished tied for fifth in last week’s boys state golf championship tournament.

Choate, who qualified by winning the 1st Region invidivual championship the week prior, opened play last Tuesday with a 5-over-par 77, tying him for 20th. In Wednesday’s second round, Choate tied for the second-best score of the day (3-under-par 69), placing him fifth along with South Warren’s Jared Brown and West Jessamine’s Connor Haas.

Choate finished 10 strokes behind the winner, Fred Allen Meyer of West Jessamine, who fired a 4-under-par 68 in both rounds. West Jessamine also won the team championship, topping St. Xavier by seven strokes.
