Carole Nikaido died on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, in Deerfield, Ill., where she resided at Whitehall Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on April 19, 1940, in Boonville, Ind., to the late James Kessner and Ruth Ellen Gardner.
Carole graduated from Boonville High School in 1958. She was a graduate of The Protestant Deaconese School of Nursing in Evansville, Ind. After graduation, she worked for the University of Kentucky Medical Center for several years before moving to Maui, Hawaii, in 1970. She worked there for 20 years as a mental health nurse and retired after working another five years as a school nurse.
In 1970, Carole met and married Minoru “Nick” Nikaido. They lived on the Island of Maui until 2001when they moved to Cadiz where they resided until Nick’s death in 2012. Carole was the life of the party to all those around her.
Carole is survived by two daughters, Noelle and husband Ivan Sim of Deerfield Ill., and Nicole Nikaido from San Mateo, Calif., two granddaughters, Scout and Sailor Sim, and sister Mary Elaine (Gardner) Whittle and husband Charles from Kamuela, Hawaii.
