A new traffic signal at the east intersection of U.S. 68/Ky. 80 and U.S. 68/Ky. 80-Business has been officially approved, but when it will be completed is still uncertain.

“Normally this is about a 3 to 6 month process to get a signal up and running,” said Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Spokesman Keith Todd. “Crews are assigned to that project. However, if we have a storm come through their first priority moves to getting everything back up and running properly. Anytime they aren’t working on a maintenance issue at another signal they’ll be working on this signal and the signal in Calvert City.”

Todd said that when the new signal is ready to be made operational, they will give the public a 10-day notice so drivers will be prepared for traffic flow changes. There is currently only a caution light at that intersection. He added that “preliminary installation activities” will still within a few weeks.

KyTC officials conducted a traffic flow study of the intersection starting in early August, after the study was requested by city and county officials. Todd said engineering and design work has already started.
