That’s what Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District One Chief Engineer Mike McGregor said last Tuesday afternoon after a meeting with many contractors from around the country at the Lagoon Bridge on the Marshall County side of Kentucky Lake. The contractors were there to learn about the specifications of the new Eggner Ferry Bridge.
“Normally, [in] our bidding process, we would advertise a project about three weeks prior to the bid letting (opening). Because of the size and the complexity of this project, we felt it necessary to try to give them more time,” said McGregor. “This essentially gives them two months by providing the information today … to help them take the necessary time to prepare a good bid for our December letting.”
The project is expected to cost between $125 million and $150 million, and the replacement bridge over Lake Barkley – also called the Lawrence Memorial Bridge – will be similar and is expected to cost about that much, said McGregor.
