A group of maintenance workers is unhappy with the contractor that was selected earlier this year to take over maintenance at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

In an unsigned letter – the group alternately calls themselves “Members of the LBL Workforce” and “Concerned maintenance workers at Land Between the Lakes” – several allegations are made of the contractor, EnviroSmart, a group based out of Charleston, S.C.

Such allegations include the proposed closure of the maintenance complex at Golden Pond, the allegation that EnviroSmart won’t offer health benefits to its employees and a lack of experience in the kind of maintenance work required at LBL.

“LBL is too important to trust its maintenance to an ill-prepared company,” the letter says. “If conditions decline at LBL, it will result in fewer visitors and negative economic impact to the local economy.”
