Trigg County has now gone four consecutive seasons without a playoff victory. Friday’s 35-34 loss at Monroe County was perhaps the most heartbreaking addition to that streak.

The Wildcats (5-6) led the Falcons (8-3, will play Friday at Paducah Tilghman) 28-14 at halftime and led 34-27 midway through the fourth quarter but couldn’t close the game.

“I’ve told them for the last six weeks if they’d go out and play as hard and fast as they possibly can, at the end they’d have nothing to hang their heads about,” Trigg head coach Coby Lewis said. “That’s exactly what they did.”

Monroe took the first possession of the game and marched down the field, taking a 7-0 lead on Caleb Veach’s six-yard run. Trigg answered with back-to-back touchdown runs by Jayven Jones, the first from seven yards out and the second from four.
