It’s been a busy week, so you get a bit of everything from me in this column

What a week.

If this reads like a stream-of-consciousness column, there’s a reason for that.

First, thanks for reading The Cadiz Record! One of the ways we try to show appreciation to the community for supporting us is by sending a free copy of the paper to everyone in Trigg County twice a year. This week is one of those editions.

In this issue, you’ll find our usual news, community and sports coverage along with advertisements from many local businesses, as well as one of our favorite special sections – Thanksgiving recipes from Trigg County preschoolers, kidnergartners and first graders.

A few of the classes shook things up a bit this year by offering ideas on an entire Thanksgiving feast and even turning this year’s turkey into a pet.

We hope you enjoy it, and be sure to check out our Dec. 18 edition, which will feature a section in which those same students get the chance to give their Christmas wish lists to Santa Claus.

This week’s issue also features photos of Saturday’s wrestling meet that was held at the Trigg County High School gym. Those photos were snapped by Kristian Wortham, a TCHS grad currently enrolled at Murray State University.

Every so often, a local student will enroll in one of the photography classes at MSU. Part of that class requires students to have some of their work published, and I’m happy every time we get the chance to help a local student fulfill this requirement.

I didn’t get to attend that meet myself because of a death in the family. My wife’s grandfather passed away last week.

Most of you probably don’t know J.B. Burkeen, but some of you might have heard of his wife, Jo, who worked for over six decades at the Murray Ledger & Times.

J.B. would probably have been upset with me for missing a work gig because of his passing, but he was certainly deserving of the attention, as is Granny Jo.

So that made it a pretty busy weekend, all leading up to one of our busiest work weeks of the year in prepping this week’s issue.

Quite a bit of extra effort goes into putting out an issue that’s double the size of a normal one. And with a four-person staff that already wears extra hats, those hats got a little heavier this week.

So I should definitely take a little space to give an extra Thank You to Franklin Clark, Jimmy Hart and Christine Hazelmyer for their extra effort.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, the Thanksgiving season officially began as we had the first of our many family meals. Thus begins the start of what ends up feeling like the fastest six weeks of the year.

For me, at least. Maybe you hate your family and it feels like the holidays will never end. If so, prayers.

For me, this week also includes a fun date night Emily and I have planned for Thursday – Here Come The Mummies in concert in Murray.

I’m telling you, take that look off your face and Google it. Then buy a ticket and get ready for one of the funnest shows you’ll ever see.
