With the help of the Trigg County Schools Interact Club, the Cadiz Rotary Club sent 180 pairs of shoes to needy children around the world, via the Shoes for Orphan Souls program.

Cadiz Rotarian Jessica Taylor of Heritage Bank said they’ve been working on collecting the shoes since about August, and have worked with Fred’s to buy about 60 pairs shoes at a 10-percent discount on top of a $125 community donation. The Interact Club also did some fundraising and got an additional 120 pairs of shoes, Taylor said.

“In total, we had 180 pairs, which I dropped off at Louisville at the Rotary International Conference,” said Taylor. “Fred’s also went out of their way to collect shoes from all the different locations nearby.”

Shoes for Orphan Souls is a worldwide initiative through Rotary International to help send shoes to orphans and poor children in other countries and the U.S. who otherwise wouldn’t have shoes, Taylor said.
