Joe Wilson died on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at his home in Cadiz.
He was a United States Air Force Korean War veteran. He had worked as a crane operator for Midland Steel and Republic Steel in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a 32nd degree master mason with the Scottish Rite and had attended Cadiz Masonic Lodge No. 121 and Ophelia Chapter No. 55 Order of the Eastern Star where he had served as Worthy Patron.
He was a member and past Worthy Patron of the Laurel Chapter No. 472 Order of the Eastern Star and had served as past Master of the Laurel Masonic Lodge No. 104. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Cadiz.
Joe Wilson was preceded in death by his father, John Franklin Wilson; mother Trula Hodge Wilson; eight sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Wilson of Cadiz; one sister, Lillie Strupe of Huntington, W. Va.; two sons, Joseph F. Wilson, Jr. (and wife Kathy) of Rockport, Texas and David A. Wilson (and wife Bobby) of Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Brian, Jason, Crystal and Emily Wilson and Cherise Hibbitt and Becky Williams; 13 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Lily, Matt and Keagan Wilson, Brandon and Owen Sullivan, Mady and Collin Williams, Kayla, Ana, Mason, Martavion and Jamison Hibbitt.
Serving as pallbearers were Jeremy Wilson, Brian Wilson, Andy Williams, Marcus Hibbitt, Brandon Sullivan and Mason Hibbitt. Music was provided by the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Choir. Memorial contributions may be made to: Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 277, Cadiz, KY 42211.
