Funeral services for Chilton Garfield Thomas, 80, of Lehigh Acres, Fla., formerly of Trigg County, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville. The Rev. Darrell Crawford will officiate. Burial will follow in the Flat Lick Cemetery.

Mr. Thomas died at 3:37 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Ft. Myers, Fla.

Chilton Thomas was born on May 29, 1933, in Trigg County to Stanford Pierce Thomas and Tiny Maebell Ezell Thomas.

Chilton was an insurance agent. He was a United States Army veteran having served in Korea. During his time in Korea, he was held as a prisoner of war for five months. He was awarded two purple hearts and a bronze star.

Following his active duty service, he spent eight years in the army reserves. He was a member of the Lexington Memorial No. 473 Masonic Lodge in Lexington, N.C., a Shriner, member of the Eastern Star and a Kentucky Colonel. He was also a member of Lee Boulevard Baptist Church in Lehigh Acres, Fla.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Thomas; his son, David Thomas of Peidmont, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
