In spite of the wishes of half of the Cadiz City Council last Tuesday evening, a section of property in east Cadiz will be rezoned from residential to commercial.

Craig Fowler owns a piece of property along Main Street in Cadiz, just west of Pennyrile Electric. In September, an attorney representing him went before the Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission to request that it be rezoned from R1 (residential) to B2 (business, or commercial).

Property owners adjacent to the property in question have voiced their concerns, both to the Planning Commission and to the Cadiz City Council. At last Tuesday’s meeting, Cadiz City Council member Susan Bryant, a former Planning Commission member, motioned to overturn their recommendation but didn’t want to “cast any aspersions” on that board.

“It’s commercial halfway around it, and it’s residential halfway around it,” said Bryant.
