Several stories dominated the Cadiz Record’s front page over the past year. Here are just a few of them.

The 2002 Chantell Humphries murder case; 56th Circuit Commonwealth’s Attorney G.L. Ovey’s recusal

In August and September of 2012, Claude Russell was tried for the June 2002 murder of Chantell Humphries. But with an 8 – 4 split, the jury could not reach a decision, and 56th Circuit Judge C.A. Woodall III declared a mistrial.

Later on 56th Circuit Commonwealth’s Attorney G.L. Ovey declared his intent to re-try Russell, who originally been indicted not long after Humphries was found dead. However, the charges were dropped in 2003. Russell was re-indicted in 2011.
