Trigg County High School’s girls basketball team started a tough stretch of five games in five days with three losses in the First Southern National Bank Christmas Classic in Russellville.

The Lady Wildcats lost 56-51 to Russellville on Thursday, 59-33 to Spencer County on Friday and 67-45 to Middlesboro on Saturday.

Thursday, Trigg played its best game of the weekend. After falling behind by 13 points midway through the second quarter, the Lady ‘Cats closed the first half on a 9-0 run to cut the gap to 26-22.

Alison Russell hit a three-pointer, and Mallory Mize got a steal and a layup on the following Russellville possession to put Trigg ahead 29-28 with 6:54 to go in the third quarter. A free throw by Jessica Lovdahl gave Trigg its largest lead at 30-28.

Russellville took a four-point lead late in the third quarter, and Trigg was able to cut it back to one point on three occasions but never regained the lead.
