Mr. Blakeley died following a short illness at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
Wallace Blakeley was born on Oct. 2, 1929, in Cerulean to Newton Anderson Blakeley and Sarah Ellen Tribble Blakeley.
Mr. Blakeley was an elder and member of Cadiz Christian Church. Wallace was co-owner of Wilkinson’s Department Store and Mrs. B’s Gifts and Custom Framing.
He was a United States Army veteran with the 36 Quarter Master at Fort Lee Virginia as a Private First Class; he had a 40 year perfect attendance record with the Cadiz Civitan Club; he served on the executive council of 4-H and served as chairman and vice chairman of the housing authority. Mr. Blakeley was instrumental in the Cerulean Springs Restoration committee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Delores Blakeley; brother Walter Elwood Blakeley and sister Ruby Evelyn Carter.
Mr. Blakeley is survived by his son, Gary Blakeley (and wife Stacy) of Cadiz; daughter Hope Blakeley Wood of Cadiz; five grandchildren, Amanda Catherin Cook, of Cadiz, Stuart Anderson Cook of Bowling Green, Logan Roderick Blakeley of Chattanooga, Tenn., Ashton Marie Blakeley of Clarksville, Tenn. and Madison Michelle Blakeley of Cadiz.
Serving as pallbearers were Denny Mize, Bruce Carter, Ronnie Blakeley, Mike Rogers, Gary Blakeley and Danny Hooks. Honorary pallbearers were Logan Blakeley and Stuart Cook. Music was provided by Laura Grigson, pianist and Danny Dickerson, vocalist.
