Bids for construction of a new U.S. 68/Ky. 80 bridge – the Eggner Ferry Bridge – over the Tennessee River/Kentucky Lake were let on Friday, Dec. 20.

Keith Todd, spokesman for Districts One and Two of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said their bid review committee will go over the eight bids they’ve received in a week or two to determine if the lowest bid meets the project’s technical requirements. It could be near the end of January before that committee awards a bid, he added.

“Once awarded, on a project of this size it would take a month or two for the contractor to mobilize and get equipment to the site to actually start work on the new Eggners Ferry Bridge,” said Todd. “Meanwhile, work will continue on the Lagoon Bridge project.”

The new four-lane bridge’s design, a basket handle arch crossing, will be matched eight miles away, where U.S. 68/Ky. 80 will cross Lake Barkley at Canton.
