A replacement bridge over Lake Barkley and the widening of U.S. 68/Ky. 80 are among the projects funded in the 2014 – 2020 Highway Plan, proposed by Governor Steve Beshear (D) last week.

“Our transportation system carries the life blood of our Commonwealth,” Beshear said. “Our commerce, economic development, education, community growth – our very quality of life – all depend on a transportation infrastructure that is as modern and safe as we can make it. Our Recommended Highway Plan represents a critical investment in that infrastructure.”

The plan, which was submitted to the General Assembly, provides for $165 million for construction funding for the Henry R. Lawrence Memorial Bridge, which carries U.S. 68/Ky. 80 across Lake Barkley.

A sister bridge to the Lawrence Memorial Bridge, the Eggner Ferry Bridge, carries U.S. 68/Ky. 80 over Kentucky Lake. It too is being replaced, and its replacement is provided in the 2012 Highway Plan.
