Despite Hamby saying there were still many unanswered questions, board members voted 3 – 0 to approve the $21,086,761 draft budget. Board members Donnie Holland and Sharon Simmons were absent.
Hamby said one of the major unanswered questions was how much money the district would receive from SEEK (Support Educational Excellence in Kentucky), money the district receives from the state. The formula is changed every year; that money accounts for what Hamby said is 37 percent of the revenue in the budget.
“As you know, the legislature is actually, currently meeting,” said Hamby. “This is a budget year, and at this point we have no forecast from SEEK to even begin to put together what is actually around 37 percent of our revenue that we have come into the school district. So we don’t know if that’s going up, we don’t know if that’s going down, we don’t know if that’s going to stay constant.”
