The ‘Cats, who were already without Brien Dossett (ACL) and Tyler Estes (shoulder) for the season due to injury and Corbin Estes due to illness, played last week’s games without Luke McKenzie due to illness. Trigg lost 62-48 at Madisonville-North Hopkins last Tuesday. McKenzie returned briefly in Trigg’s 70-53 loss Monday against Webster County.
Friday, the ‘Cats dominated play in the first half, leading by as many as 19 points after a basket by Tae Day put them ahead 35-16 late in the second quarter.
The Colonels outscored Trigg 18-9 in the third quarter and tied the score at 57-57 with 2:40 left in the fourth. The ‘Cats went on a 6-1 run from there on baskets by Day and Debo Mayes and two free throws by Cole Gardner. Gardner went 3-for-4 at the line the rest of the way and defended County’s last-second three-pointer that would have tied the score.
