Trigg County Middle School will send three competitors to the middle school state wrestling meet Feb. 8 at Montgomery County.

Saturday at Union County, Colin Stevens took second place in his weight class, and Taylor Hampton and Justin Crabtree each finished fourth in theirs in the region championship meet. Cole Darnall and Jarrod Ballengee each finished fifth in their class and will serve as alternates at state.

“They all wrestled really well,” Trigg wrestling coach Ralph Stevens said, noting that Colin Stevens, currently ranked fourth in the state in his class, lost to the No. 2-ranked wrestler at region. “If he can place in the top six, I’ll be tickled.”

Stevens said the region performance is a good sign for Trigg’s future in wrestling.

“I’m happy for the eighth graders to get this opportunity,” Stevens said. “It’ll prepare them for high school.”
