Trigg County High School’s boys basketball team entered this week’s 5th District Tournament with an overall record of 16-7 after wins over Todd County Central and Fort Campbell to end the regular season.

The Wildcats are the top seed in the tournament and played No. 4-seed Lyon County on Tuesday at Crittenden County (results unavailable at press time). The winner will advance to Friday’s championship game (7 p.m. at Crittenden) against the winner of Tuesday’s game between Crittenden and Livingston Central.

Last Tuesday, Trigg shook off a rough start to earn a 67-49 Senior Night victory over Todd. The ‘Cats trailed by as many as 11 in the first quarter and 29-25 at halftime. However, Trigg opened the third quarter with a 14-2 run and kept Todd off the scoreboard until the 2:30 mark.

Cole Gardner led the ‘Cats with 17 points, followed by Luke McKenzie with 12, Tae Day with 11, Debo Mayes with eight, Demaria Nance with seven, Drew Mabry with six, and Corbin Estes, Ean Sholar and Brien Dossett with two apiece.
