Stevens third at state wrestling meet; Trigg 33rd

Aaron Stevens earned Trigg County High School’s best state wrestling tournament finish since 1982 this weekend.

Stevens finished third in the 195-pound division at the KHSAA state championship meet in Lexington. Stevens father and high school coach Ralph Stevens was a state champion in 1982.

Stevens went 5-1 in the tournament, earning wins over Alan Cehrs of Simon Kenton (fall at 2:57), Elijah Allgeier of St. Xavier (4-2 decision) and Jake Fooks of Bourbon County (4:23) before losing in the semifinal round to eventual champion Darrius Parrott of North Hardin (3-5). Stevens then topped Mark Saunders of Bullitt Central (9-3) and won the third-place match over Elijah Miller of Scott (8-1).

Ryan Gallogly and Devonta Turner each went 1-2 at the tournament, Gallogly at 145 pounds and Turner at 106.
