Funeral services for James Edward “Shag” Thorpe, 86, of Eddyville, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton. Visitation is scheduled from 12 noon until the service hour. The Rev. Steve McVay will officiate. Burial will follow in the Confederate Cemetery in Lyon County. Morgan’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James Thorpe passed away following a short illness at 2:10 a.m. on Monday March 24, 2014, at Covington’s Christian Convalescent Center in Hopkinsville.

James was born on Dec. 9, 1927, in Lyon County to James E. and Euna Williamson Thorpe.

James was a retired foreman with the Lyon County Highway Dept. He was a member of Saratoga United Methodist Church and a former 50-year member of Friendship United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Parkerville Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Harold Thorpe and sister Laverne Thompson.

James is survived by his wife, June Gresham Thorpe; two sisters. Pauline Cummins of Lyon County and Mildred Beck of McCracken County; one son, Terry Thorpe (and wife Rose) of Hopkinsville; three grandchildren, Annmarie Spurlin, Sam Steger and Tommy Steger; and six great-grandchildren, Meagan Gilliland, Kristin Gilliland, Taylor Steger, Brooke Steger, Katelyn Steger and Karsyn Steger.
