Legislation that would create the “Books for Brains Program” statewide will be considered by the full Kentucky State Senate.

House Bill 431, sponsored by District Eight State Representative John Tilley (D) and District One State Senator Stan Humphries (R), was brought to the Senate floor on Monday. The program would be very similar the Imagination Library, which has chapters in both Trigg and Christian Counties.

“I have already seen what this program has done in places like Christian and Trigg counties,” Tilley said last month. “I think all of Kentucky would benefit from something like this, and if the House and Senate agree, Kentucky will be able to take a small investment and turn it into a lifetime’s worth of gains.”

Last month, the bill passed 97 – 0 in the Kentucky House of Representatives. Last Tuesday, the state Senate’s Appropriations and Revenue Committee voted for the bill.
