That was one of the takeaway lessons from a meeting of the International Conference of Police Chaplains, held in Cadiz. Amy Ellis, the widow of slain Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis, Tania Pineiroa, wife to a Nelson County Sheriff’s Deputy, and Bardstown Police Captain Tom Roby spoke to the group of police officers, family members and chaplains.
Ellis said her husband tried to shield her from his job, but it didn’t make her feel any safer, it just shut her out of part of his life.
“I felt so shut off from that part of his life, that after his death, just in the beginning stages, them asking me if I knew this person or knew about this, I’m like, ‘No, he didn’t talk to me about anything,” Ellis said.
