At last Tuesday evening’s Cadiz City Council meeting, Cadiz Public Works Director Kerry Fowler said such a plant could cost $4-5 million, money that would be reimbursed by the Kentucky Department of Solid Waste.
Cadiz City Council members unanimously voted to proceed with a feasibility study on a new treatment plant. Fowler said he spoke with Division of Solid Waste officials in January 2013 about issues with the old county landfill, the contents of which could eventually leak into the town’s water supply if something isn’t done.
Fowler has finally heard a response from them about the options. They could remove the old solid waste from the landfill, at a cost of $15 – $18 million, or they put a re-cap on the old landfill property at a cost of $3 million.
