Madisonville Disposal, the contractor in charge of the city’s garbage removal, has filed for bankruptcy and may not be able to provide that service for its entire three-year contract.

At last Tuesday’s Cadiz City Council meeting, Cadiz City Attorney Allen Wilson informed Council members of the bankruptcy, but no action was taken. They met again on Tuesday evening to discuss the issue, but the results of that meeting weren’t available at press time.

“There is a significant likelihood that Madisonville Disposal, LLC, will not continue to collect garbage until March 21, 2016,” said Wilson. “So, they may find another garbage collection company that will do it for the same terms that you have negotiated with Madisonville Disposal, LLC.”

In February 2013, Madisonville Disposal was chosen by the City for an exclusive franchise. They had provided residential garbage pickup services in Cadiz for three years, and were set to continue to do so for another three years.
