Douglas Colson and Zach Colbert won Saturday’s 1st Region bass fishing championship by the slimmest of margins.

The Trigg County High School pair caught five fish for a total of 20 pounds, 11 ounces – just one ounce better than Muhlenberg County’s Cameron Brooks and Chase Geary.

Colson and Colbert – whose total was the best in the state during the regional champoinship weekend – were one of three Trigg teams to qualify for the KHSAA Bass Fishing State Championship. Joining them will be Austin Greene and Skylar Pool (fourth at region, five fish, 19-1) and Mason Shelton, Drake Oliver and Mallory Mize (sixth, five fish, 17-10).

The region championship was held on Lake Barkley at Kuttawa Harbor, and the state championship will be decided April 25-26 on Kentucky Lake at Kentucky Dam Marina in Gilbertsville.
