The 2014 Cadiz Rotary Radio Auction, the 47th annual such event, raised more than $325,000, far exceeding the expectations of its organizers.

“We broke every record there was to break,” said Auction Chair Penny Jones. “My goal was actually $200,000 and I knew I wanted $250,000. I discovered by Friday afternoon that we were probably going to do at least $300,000, maybe $310,000.”

Last year, the Rotary Club raised $242,000. Jones thanked the people who bought the items that were up for bid, including handmade goose calls and kayaks. The Century Club raised about half of the $325,000, and both the Kick-Off Breakfast on Monday morning and the last night were impressive, Jones said.

On the very last night, another factor was Spirit of Rotary Bids. That is, if anyone goes over a certain amount, others would match it. Jones said two different people offered up Spirit of Rotary Bids.
