As fish were weighed April 5, Trigg County High School’s bass fishing team sat and waited. Who would win the 1st Region Championship?

The fish caught by Muhlenberg County’s Cameron Brooks and Chase Geary totaled 20 pounds, 10 ounces.

Trigg’s Douglas Colson and Zach Colbert watched as their fish were weighed.

“We were sitting there just shaking,” Colbert said.

Then, the total: 20 pounds, 11 ounces.

“Everything just stopped,” Colson said. “The only thing going through my head was, ‘One ounce.’”

A slim margin is still a margin, and it was enough to send Colson and Colbert to this weekend’s state championship as the 1st Region winners.
