The two state representatives and the state senator representing Trigg County spoke to Trigg Countians Thursday evening at the Cadiz Renaissance Center about the latest session of the Kentucky General Assembly.

During an After Hours event sponsored by the Cadiz-Trigg County Chamber of Commerce, District Five Representative Kenny Imes (R), District Eight Representative John Tilley (D) and District One Senator Stan Humphries (R) talked about a variety of topics, including the budget, the heroin bill and the state road plan.

“There was a lot of good in the [budget] bill,” Imes said.

For all three, the budget was the most significant item passed. Tilley said the state’s total budget sits at $68 billion, $20 billion of which is in the states’s general fund, and for the first time in five years includes increases in education spending, but it’s still not enough. However, Humphries noted that they can now spend more money on textbooks.

Humphries, who is on the Senate’s Appropriations and Revenue Committee, called working on the budget “an eye-opening experience.”
