The win over the Lyons kept the Wildcats in contention for the top seed in the district tournament. The winner of Friday’s game between Trigg and Crittenden County will earn the top spot. Livingston Central earns the No. 3 seed with a win Monday over Lyon, or there will be a coin flip if Lyon wins. The district tournament is scheduled for May 19-20 in Marion.
Trigg needed extra innings and a rally to top Lyon. The ‘Cats led 5-2 after two innings and 6-3 after five, but the Lyons scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh to tie the game. Lyon then plated two in the top of the eighth.
Ben Wigand and Corbin Estes each singled and stole bases to lead off the frame. Tyler Estes reached on an error to score Wigand, and Tyler Allen singled in the Esteses to win the game for the ‘Cats.
Allen earned the win on the mound, pitching the final one-and-two-thirds innings. Caleb McIntosh allowed two earned runs in six innings as the starter.
